Cardamom Sri Lanka

Cardamom is a spice that comes from two plants which belong to the family of Zingiberaceae. Cardamom from the Elettaria plant usually has thin a pale green cover whereas Cardamom which comes from Amomum plant has a thin dark brown cover. Cardamom stands as the world’s third most expensive spice as a popular and most demanded export product.

Cardamom is mostly used as a flavoring agent and is popular for its sharp taste and natural aroma. You can use the seed pods as a whole or separately when adding them to dishes. The excellent quality of Cardamom is what makes it the third largest spice in the world. Indians use Cardamom when preparing their sweet dishes and drinks.

Sri Lanka mostly exports Cardamom that comes from the Elettaria plant which has a pale green cover and also called the true Cardamom. Ceylon Cardamom meets all the required export standards as one of the most demanded spices in the international market.

Cardamom mainly serves as a spice, but it is also used for beverages and in medicine. Mostly in medicine to treat indigestion and obesity by ancient Arabians and Indians. The demand for Cardamom is still on the rise ever since the past.
